This division is responsible for the fire safety inspections of all businesses located within the City limits to ensure compliance with the Florida Fire Prevention Code. The division also performs many community risk reduction efforts to help ensure public safety. Presently, the Assistant Fire Chief also serves as the City's Fire Marshal, as this position is currently unfunded in the City's budget.
The City has adopted the Florida Fire Prevention Code which is inclusive of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1 and 101 Life Safety Code. The Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal is tasked with overseeing compliance with these codes.
In addition to fire safety inspection responsibilities, the division routinely works with the Planning and Development Department conducting plan reviews as well as additional fire suppression inspections associated with new development projects. The division is an active participant on the Development Review Committee and the Special Event Team. The Fire Marshal also oversees the investigation of structure fires and any other "suspicious" fire, working with the State Fire Marshal's Office when necessary.
