Overview:

The New Port Richey Fire Department has a proud tradition of providing dedicated service to the City for over 100 years. In 1922, the New Port Richey Volunteer Fire Department was organized through donations, and the residents were able to purchase the first fire truck, which was an Ajax Chemical Engine mounted on a Ford chassis at a cost of $2,000.

The Fire Department currently operates out of 2 fire stations fully staffed with 24 career Firefighter-Paramedics augmented with part-time Firefighter EMTs working 3 shifts on a 24-48 hour schedule. In addition to providing fire protection services, the fire department provides advanced life support (ALS) non-transport medical service. Additional responsibilities include emergency management preparedness, response and recovery, especially during hurricane season. In addition to emergency response, the fire department provides a number of non-emergency services to ensure the safety of our city through community risk reduction efforts, including inspections of all buildings through the construction process, as well as existing businesses to ensure compliance with the Florida Fire Prevention Code. The fire department is very engaged in the community and actively participates in the large number of events throughout the year, as well as provides fire safety education to school children and the general public. The fire department operates under the direction of Fire Chief Chris Fitch.
