Mayor Chopper Davis is a man from everywhere. His father served in the U.S. Air Force, resulting in Chopper growing up having lived in or visited 49 states, and even attending high school in Bermuda. He graduated from Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and also served in the U.S. Army. Chopper says he never had a hometown until he moved to New Port Richey in 1983. After just a few years here, he was accepted as a ‘local’ and has been contributing to our community ever since.

Upon his arrival to New Port Richey, he opened Jilly’s Tavern on Main Street, which he owned and operated for nine years. After that, he worked at the Center for Independence, where he ran the sheltered workshop for developmentally delayed adults. Then, he began his work with Card Connect, a company that specializes in processing credit cards for commercial accounts, a business he still works with today.

Chopper has volunteered with several organizations since first coming here in 1983. From 2009 -2013, he volunteered on New Port Richey’s Firefighters Pension Board. He spent nine years on the New Port Richey City Council, two of which he served as Deputy Mayor. And, in 2023, he was elected Mayor of New Port Richey. Mayor Chopper Davis also serves on other intergovernmental boards, including Tampa Bay Water.

And, for those who made it this far, the state he hasn’t visited is North Dakota.
