Environmental Committee
The purpose of the environmental committee is to offer advisory opinions and recommendations to the city council on environmental issues facing the city. The duties and functions of the environmental committee are as follows:

The environmental committee shall serve as the planning committee for any of the city's major environmental events, such as the Earth Day event and the Arbor Day Celebration.

The committee shall explore new environmental initiatives for consideration and funding by the city council.

The environmental committee shall serve as an advisor to the city council and may render special reports to the city council as the members may deem advisable.

The environmental committee shall advise the city council on the planting of trees in public places and, in general, provide advice to the city council on the promulgation of the city's urban forestry program. The environmental committee shall fulfill all of the duties of an arbor board, including the filing of such reports and the planning of any programs recommended and required by the National Arbor Day Foundation's National Tree City USA program.

The environmental committee shall advise the city council on the creation and sponsorship of recycling programs and activities in the city and shall also offer recommendations to the city council on the financial support of recycling programs and events.

The environmental committee shall review all requests made to the city council regarding the level of financial support for such activities. In addition, the committee may offer recommendations to the city council for the initiation and promotion of new recycling activities to be sponsored, either in full or in part, by the city.
