City of New Port Richey Announces New Electric Vehicle ChargePoint Station

The City of New Port Richey is proud to announce the installation of an electric vehicle ChargePoint station at the Recreation & Aquatic Center located at 6630 Van Buren Street.  “We are seeing more and more people buying plug-in vehicles.  The cars are being purchased by forward thinking people who are just the type we are trying to attract to our city,” said Mayor Rob Marlowe.

The Level 2 ChargePoint station at the Recreation & Aquatic Center contains two charging ports in addition to an outlet that can be used for golf cart charging.  The Level 2 ChargePoint station provides up to 6kw charging at both ports calculating to approximately twenty-five miles per charging hour.  Mayor Marlowe stated, “People can come and get in a workout while their car is charging.”  The City’s ChargePoint station is already visible on some apps and marks the fourth location that is available in West Pasco for electric vehicle charging.  The City has plans to install similar stations at Sims Park and the Library.  The ChargePoint station was purchased with the use of Local Option Gas Tax funds and was installed by Public Works crews for an overall cost savings to residents.

The ChargePoint station is currently in test mode and will make its official debut during the open house event for the newly renovated Recreation & Aquatic Center on Saturday, February 17, 2018.  To see a demonstration on how the station operates, please visit the City’s YouTube channel or click the following link
